The products are being recalled because the sand may contain asbestos, which is a known carcinogen. The presence of this banned substance in a children’s product is the core reason for the recall.
The good news? Experts suggest the immediate risk of inhalation is low.
Important Safety Assessment:
- The dangerous, airborne (respirable) asbestos fibres have not been detected in any of the tested samples while the sand is in its current state.
- The release of these harmful fibres is considered unlikely unless the sand is processed by mechanical means, such as being crushed or pulverising (grinding).
