Old Bridge Deconstruction

Barges and cranes are currently pulling out the 41 metre lift span as part of the deconstruction of the old Bridgewater Bridge in Hobart’s north.

Commodore of the Motor Yacht Club of Tasmania Brian Edmonds is looking forward to restoring the Derwent’s access.

“It’s been nearly 20 years since I’ve been able to cruise up to New Norfolk, this is going to be a fantastic opportunity to cruise back to New Norfolk, seeing the colours and the vibrancy of New Norfolk, perhaps staying overnight and enjoying the township.”

The 1946 structure was replaced by the $786 million New Bridgewater Bridge which opened to traffic in June last year.
