It has been explained why Commonwealth funding for Tasmania’s AFL deal in the north will come out of the state’s GST revenue share, while it’s still unresolved in the south.
The Prime Minister unleashed $65 million dollars for upgrading Launceston’s York Park and $240 million towards the new Hobart stadium.
Treasurer Michael Ferguson shared the state of play with parliament.
“York Park funding would not be exempt as it would be treated in a similar way to federal funding for the North Queensland stadium, the Adelaide Oval redevelopment and the SCG redevelopment, we are continuing to have discussions about GST exemption for the Macquarie Point precinct funding on the basis of it being an urban renewal project.”
Meantime, a claimed inconsistency on the timing of the request to have Hobart’s waterfront stadium funding exempted from Tasmania’s GST revenue share calculation has seen a censure motion levelled at the Premier.
Labor’s picked up that the Premier told parliament on the morning of May 9th that the request had been sent, while Treasurer Michael Ferguson today (Wednesday) mentioned it was sent later.
“I transmitted that letter in the afternoon of the 9th of May.”
The censure motion was defeated with the support of former Liberal members Lara Alexander and John Tucker.
