Greater Hobart bus drought ongoing

The Tasmanian Government remains under pressure to fix the saga engulfing Metro buses with around 100 services cancelled around Greater Hobart on Friday, following on from Thursday’s total of 130.

Franklin MP David O’Byrne says lower socioeconomic areas on the eastern shore are being unfairly targeted with reductions, after anti-social behaviour on buses led to a driver exodus.

“It is disproportionately affecting working-class areas…Risdon Vale, Clarendon Vale, Rokeby are being impacted the most,” said Mr O’Byrne.

Transport Minister Michael Ferguson says addressing the issue is a top priority.

“The business needs to adapt to the employment market, and I have asked the Department to support Metro through that, and importantly, not taking on board any suggestion that an individual suburb should get a disproportionate reduction in services,” he said.

“We want to make it fair for all.”
