Conditions “challenging” in missing tourist search

Search efforts will ramp up on Thursday for a missing Belgian tourist whose car was found at the Philosopher Falls walking track car park in the state’s west on Tuesday.

Foul play isn’t suspected at this stage after Celine Cremer’s phone last gave a signal on the 20th, three days after she was seen at nearby Waratah.

The 31-year-old had been travelling around the state, including Hobart, in the weeks and months before.

On Wednesday police abseiled into inaccessible, heavily rainforested terrain and had a drone in the sky in a full day of searching for Ms Cremer.

“Conditions have been quite challenging, it is quite cold, there has been a lot of rain,” said Inspector Anthea Maingay.

“Her phone had signalled from that area when we tested it, indications are that she was an inexperienced hiker and she was prepared for a light day’s travel.”
