Bushfire emergency downgraded

At least two homes and a shed have been destroyed by a fast-moving bushfire which cut off Dolphin Sands on Tasmania’s east coast on Sunday night.

The blaze was downgraded from Emergency to Watch and Act but was still out of control as of 7am on Monday.

The fire grew to around 112 hectares after being fanned by strong winds on Sunday night which are forecast to whip up again on Monday.

One firefighter has been treated for smoke inhalation but otherwise there have been no injuries from the fire.

Dolphin Sands Road is still at risk of embers, smoke and ash.

Locals who spent the night at the Dolphin Sands boat ramp were escorted to a safer place on Monday morning.
