Man from North-West Tasmania dies in fireworks incident
A man in his 50's has died after being struck by a firework in the state's north.
Police were called to a gathering in Birralee at midnight last night, following reports the man had become unresponsive at the scene.
Initial investigations suggest he was attempting to light the firework, which involved the use of a metal cylinder.
The man was then struck in the chest and shoulder area during an explosion.
Attempts to resuscitate him at the scene were unsuccessful.
Around 100 people attended the gathering at the property, luckily no-one else was injured during the explosion.
The death is being treated as a non-suspicious incident.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
