Union concerned over quality of aged care

The Tasmanian branch of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation has expressed grave concerns for residents and staff employed at Southern Cross Aged Care facilities across the State.

Southern Cross runs the Yarandoo Aged Care Facility at Somerset, as well as home and community services in Burnie and Devonport, and five aged care facilities in the South and three in the North.

ANMF state secretary Emily Shepherd said serious concerns had been raised by both staff and residents.

Ms Shepherd says contact from Southern Cross Care residents and other health professionals at Southern Cross all over the state is incredibly concerning.
"It is indicative of an Aged Care Provider who is not being proactive on the recommendations of the Royal Commission and that must change for staff and resident safety," she says.
