Loads of guns surrendered
Dozens of guns are out of the community in Northern Tasmania.
Crimes involving guns have been prevalent in the Launceston area in recent times, so police dedicated extra publicity to its firearms amnesty for the weekend just gone.
It saw more than 50 firearms and 40 kilos of ammunition surrendered across venues including Carrick, Newnham, Pipers River and St Helens.
Included in the haul, a World War 2 Pistol, a cut down .22 rifle, and a military style rifle with a bayonet.
Tasmania has a permanent firearms amnesty where guns can be handed in, unregistered or otherwise, without fear of being prosecuted.
