Women charged over large ICE haul
Two women from Sydney, arrested over a large drug and cash haul remain behind bars in Launceston.
A positive result to an oral fluid test at a Bass Highway road operation at Deloraine on Wednesday led to a police search of a vehicle.
That's when they allegedly uncovered $1.3 million worth of the drug Ice and $750,000 in cash.
The women from New South Wales aged 48 and 44 were arrested and charged. They were remanded in custody, their lawyer applied for an adjournment until this Friday.
“The seizure of $1.3 million worth of ice sends a strong message to criminals involved in bringing drugs into our state,” Commander Stuart Wilkinson said.
“Tasmania Police is committed to preventing the importation and distribution of illicit substances in our state. We work closely with our partners to ensure our air, sea and mail corridors are not exploited by those wanting to profit from drug distribution. We thank these partners for their ongoing support,” he said.
