Public service review extended

An independent review into the Tasmanian State Service has been extended.

The final report was originally due to be handed down at the end of March 2021 but the deadline is now pushed back to May 31st, following a request from the Independent Reviewer Dr Ian Watt AC.

Previously, unions had raised concerns about the short turnaround, amid fears public service jobs could be slashed due to the COVID downturn, something the Premier ruled out last year.

An interim report released in November recommended the development of regional work hubs as a priority, essentially decentralising from Hobart.

"[it] took into account over 50 formal consultation sessions and more than 30 written submissions," Peter Gutwein said in a statement.

"With consultation now open, the extension will allow additional time for all interested parties to have their say on these important reforms that will help ensure the State Service is best placed to serve Tasmanians into the future," he said.
