An 83-year-old woman is dead after a head-on smash east of Hobart on Wednesday night.
Police were called to South Arm Road between Lauderdale and the Forest Hill Road intersection at around 8.30 pm, finding one car in the water and another on the road badly damaged.
The woman behind the wheel of a white Mitsubishi SUV died at the scene after colliding with a blue Volvo station wagon.
The other car's male driver was taken away by ambulance conscious.
33 people have now died on Tasmanian roads this year.
Anyone who saw either vehicle in the area beforehand is urged to contact crash investigators on 131 444.
