Learner motorcyclists speeding
A motorbike has been seized by police and another has been returned to its registered owner, after two L-platers were caught speeding in separate incidents in Northern Tasmania last night.
A 30-year-old man from Bridgewater was travelling at 129km/h on the Midland Highway at Campbell Town just after 5:30, while an 18-year-old male from Legana was doing 157km/h on the West Tamar Highway around 8pm.
Police say the learner speed limit is 80km/h and the two have been charged with hooning offences, due to face court at a later date.
“Safety on our roads is a priority for Tasmania Police. Speeding is part of the ‘fatal five’ and has been a contributing factor in recent motorcycle fatalities in Tasmania. Police urge all motorists to drive and ride lawfully for the safety of all road users," Inspector Craig Fox said.
