Federal Group cuts jobs
The Federal Group is standing down over 1800 employees in the wake of the federal government's entertainment venue shutdown.
About 1500 Tasmanians will be without work as the hotel and gaming giant anticipates the crippling impact of effectively closing down the hospitality sector.
Federal employs over 2000 people, but now it will be left with fewer than 500 for the time being.
Managing Director Greg Farrell wants his businesses to be allowed to reopen, should there still be no community transmission of coronavirus in 4 weeks' time, albeit with the same Tasmanian border restrictions.
Major hotels such as Wrest Point, Saffire and MACq 01 are still open but with minimal staff and services.
