Lake Malbena lease released

Tas wilderness

Lease costs for the Lake Malbena eco-tourism proposal has triggered a backlash from environmentalists.

The kayaking, bushwalking and fly fishing development, would see the operator pay $6,000 annual rent to the government for the World Heritage Area land.

That's been dubbed scandalously low by project opponent The Wilderness Society.

Proponent Daniel Hackett is addressing questions about transparency by posting information requested under Right to Information.

Mr Hackett says Wild Drake is being an open book by releasing the data.

"We want to release any document we can find about the project that concerns people," Mr Hackett said.

"We want to be as open as possible to the public, so they have all the information."

The Tourism Industry Council's Luke Martin believes the amount for the lease should be free of politics.
