New member on HCC

Will Coats has emerged as the newest Alderman on Hobart City Council, in a result not many saw coming.

A recount was conducted today, following the resignation of Liberal member Tanya Denison.

Mr Coats narrowly beat fellow Liberal Louise Bloomfield by 1.77 votes after getting receiving a massive share of preferences.

He will be on the council until at least the 2022 elections.

Ms Denison, who was first elected to the Hobart City Council in 2014, announced her resignation earlier this month. She has been appointed the future energy facilitator at the Cradle Coast Authority.
