The heat is on

Typically, the North West Coast is the place to be this week for avoiding the brunt of blazing heat building this week.

For many spots in Tasmania it is tipped to push into the 30 °C's on Thursday, and close to 40C on Friday, while Burnie and Devonport are not expected to pass 27 °C

The Bureau's David Matthews is then forecasting some rain for a cooler weekend statewide.

"Probably not seeing the rainfall start to arrive into the West Coast until late afternoon/evening on Friday and then it will spread across the state Friday evening and then Saturday morning we will see most of the rainfall into the west and north of the state."

He is also expecting some tossing and turning through the night during the heat spell.

"We certainly are looking at heatwave conditions with minimum temperatures being quite warm overnight, so probably not getting much below around 18 to 20 °C across the state.
