Huon Valley fatality

A German tourist is assisting police after being caught up in a fatal smash on the Huon Highway on Monday afternoon.

The 66-year-old's northbound motorhome hit an oncoming Toyota Aurion in the southbound lane just north of Dover.

The rescue helicopter was initially summoned but then stood down. 

The car's driver, a 59-year-old Geeveston man, was declared dead at the scene, while the tourist was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

"Forensic Services and Crash Investigation Services personnel attended the scene and conducted an investigation," said Constable Jared Gowan. 

"Investigations into factors contributing to the crash are continuing.

"Alcohol or drugs are not considered to be contributing factors in the crash."
