A man has been arrested and charged over a number of fires at Hobart supermarkets over the past week, totaling over $40 thousand in damage and loses.

It comes after a small fire which forced the evacuation of the New Town Kmart/Coles complex yesterday morning was deemed deliberately lit.

The 30-year-old is also accused of setting fire to the Claremont Woolworths on Saturday and Coles Northgate on Monday.

The male from Claremont faces three counts of Unlawfully Setting Fire to Property.

He's been bailed to appear at the Hobart Magistrates Court.
