Harris Scarfe woes
Australian department store chain Harris Scarfe has been placed into voluntary administration.
The $380 million dollar chain employs more than 1800 staff in Australia, including around 200 in Tasmania across two outlets in Hobart and one apiece in Launceston, Devonport and Ulverstone.
Trading will continue as normal over the Christmas season and staff wil be paid by receivers Deloitte Restructuring Services.
Tasmania's Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Michael Bailey remains hopeful about the chain's future.
"Workers heading into such a a happy time of the year with this hanging over their heads, it is administration not liquidation that we have to remember, so hopefully a way forward can be found for that business."
