More than 1200 Australians have received Queen’s Birthday honours.

The list ranges from actors such as Hugh Jackman and Eric Bana, to sport stars like Johnathon Thurston and Francis Sedgman.

Former PM Kevin Rudd and ABC Chair Ita Buttrose were other figures recognised with high-level Companion commendations.

Tasmanians honoured this year include Burnie heavy equipment manufacturer Dale Elphinstone, who's been made an Officer of the Order of Australia.

"Five Tasmanians have been made Officers of the Order of Australia, six Members of the Order of Australia and 19 have received Medals of the Order for Australia," said Premier Will Hodgman.

"I also congratulate Tasmania Police Assistant Commissioner, Jonathan Higgins, on being awarded the Australian Police Medal for his service to our community."

Cricket figure Tony Harrison has been awarded an Order of Australia Medal for his services to the sport.

Female representation has reached a record high 40 per cent, including 2015 Australian of the Year and domestic violence campaigner Rosie Batty.

"It really does make a big difference to the enthusiasm and commitment you have," she said.

"There's an awful lot of people who do amazing work who don't get recognised; I'm really appreciative."
