RHH operating at peak demand

Royal hbt hospital

The Royal Hobart Hospital continues to operate at peak demand.

The Emergency Department (ED) has reportedly been functioning at level 3 for a number of weeks now.

The ‘level 3 red (Severe effect on flow activity)' is triggered to allow for more efficient patient flow, with extra staff rostered on and more beds opened to help manage the situation.

Over the weekend, more than 320 people presented to ED, with 101 patients admitted.

As of this Monday morning, there were 36 patients, with 19 waiting for beds.

Meanwhile, Acting Director of Operations Susan Gannon from the Tasmanian Health Service says there were two outbreaks of the winter vomiting bug, Norovirus last week.

"...The outbreaks detected on two wards earlier in the week are being contained through strict infection control measures," says Ms Gannon
