Toilets and cubicle doors are being fitted this weekend at New Norfolk High School in a bid to have them back in service for students returning on Tuesday.
They had been ripped out in an attempt to clamp down on vaping in the lavatories, but there was a significant community backlash when kids were having to line up for 30 minutes.
Previously, Mayor of Derwent Valley Michelle Dracoulis, who has a child at the school, said her General Manager of the Council was set to meet with the principal on the matter on Tuesday.
“It’s just an absolutely bizarre situation, if there are issues around behaviour or around vaping, we need to find another mechanism to deal with that, not take away the rights of all students to go to the bathroom.”
