Investigations are continuing into an Australia Day tragedy in the state’s north which saw a motorbike rider killed after hitting a tree on a forestry trail.
A 48-year-old man was declared deceased at the scene near Browns Creek Road at Bakers Beach.
Police say he lost control and hit a tree just after midday.
On Wednesday a rider sustained serious injuries in another crash on Sandfly Road at Margate.
Police say speed was a likely factor when the 37-year-old lost control on a turn, became airborne and landed in a ditch.
“We are asking motorists to not take any risks while traveling on our roads – we need to make sure everyone gets where they’re going safely,” said Inspector Jim Semmens.
“Always remember the ‘fatal five’: speeding, seatbelts, drink and drug driving, inattention, and fatigue.”
