An excavator driver has died when the machine rolled on a railway line alongside Evandale Road near Launceston this morning.
The Victorian man was subcontracting for TasRail and his body will remain under the excavator until a crane and other equipment can be brought in.

Acting Inspector Michael Gillies isn’t able to provide a cause at the moment.
“We’ll have to speak to a number of experts about what may have occured at the time but we don’t have any indication that we can speak of at this stage.”
Another man with non-life-threatening injuries to the Launceston General Hospital as a precaution.
