A group of 13 with little food or water and no equipment walking on a hard to reach section of kunanyi / Mount Wellington was brought to safety last night [Monday].
They called for help by mobile phone from the mountain where the temperature was sub zero.
Another group of five tourists walking down the mountain were also escorted out, three of them apparently in distress due to the cold.
The Premier in Launceston telling News 24, it’s not on.
“Look, that is simply ridiculous, please heed the warnings, thankfully a local government supported that rescue when our SES personnel and others were out supporting other communities.”
