Daniel Johns, Missy Higgins, Briggs and Sarah Blasko will battle it out at the Screen Music Awards in Melbourne.

The musicians have been nominated in Monday's ceremony along with some of Australia's top screen composers for their work creating music for film and TV.

Former Silverchair frontman Johns has been nominated for Best Music for Children's Television for his work on animated series Beat Bugs, a series created by his friend and fellow Newcastle native Josh Wakely.

Blasko composed the theme for short-form series High Life and has been nominated twice for Best Television Theme and Best Music for a Mini-Series or Telemovie.

Higgins is nominated for Best Original Song Composed for the Screen for Torchlight, her song used in the Australian film Don't Tell. She's up against singer-songwriter Dustin Tebbutt for his song Atlas in Your Eye from the big screen adaptation of the Craig Silvey book, Jasper Jones.

Rapper Briggs, who is one half of the award winning indigenous hip-hop group AB Original, has been nominated for Best Television Theme for his work on Fox League Super Saturday alongside Charlton Hill and Justin Shave.

The pop stars will find out their fate at the ceremony in Melbourne on Monday night, alongside fellow nominees and renowned screen composers including Jed Kurzel, Lisa Gerrard, Cezary Skubiszewski, Antony Partos, Nerida Tyson-Chew and Matteo Zingales.

* The Screen Music Awards, staged jointly by APRA AMCOS and the Australian Guild of Screen Composers, will be held in the Melbourne Recital Centre from 6pm (AEDT).
