Details: Built in 1937, the Star Theatre is an iconic Art Deco cinema in Launceston, Tasmania. It ceased operation as a cinema in 1969 but it was re-opened on the 24 February 2018. Come and see the beautiful Art Modern (late 1930s Art Deco) cinema that has been restored. You are welcome to wander through and have a look at the building, enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine at the cafe/bar, and of course watch a movie!

Details: DREAM PALACE TOUR 2020
After premiering to a packed Odeon Theatre at Dark MOFO 2019, electronic art-pop artist COSTUME (aka Adam Ouston) is coming to Launceston to play at the Earl Arts Centre in February.
COSTUME's rich, genre-bending debut album 'Pan' was recorded in Iceland at the fabled Greenhouse Studios (Bjork, The xx, Anohni, Kanye West), and the stunning first video 'Horns' was shot around the island by Canadian filmmaker Blair Alexander (Damien Rice, Talos).
The following two videos 'Running Boy' and 'Bang Bang' were shot by veteran cinematographer Sandi Sissel (Michael Jackson's 'Black or White', The People Under the Stairs).
Since the release of 'Pan' in May 2019, and the much-lauded premiere Dark MOFO Performance, COSTUME's blend of electronic art-pop, theatrics and design has set audiences alight and garnered rave reviews:

Soggy Bottom - Cardboard Boat challenge

Details: The Soggy Bottom Cardboard Box Regatta & Family Fun Day, hosted by the Rotary Club of Youngtown with enthusiastic assistance from the Rotaract Club of the Tamar Valley at Waverley Park Lake (Launceston Tasmania) is all set for its 4th annual event on Sunday 1st March 2020.
A family fun day … Boats constructed out of cardboard boxes (rules apply) were matched against the competition on the lake. School kids pitted their running skills and agility on the dry course. Music, food vans, a tug of war, kids’ activities — jumping castle and Zorba Balls — colouring competition – all provided for family entertainment.
